Sports and Recreation near Naples Beach
Siesta Key is located on the Gulf or west coast of Florida in Sarasota County. Siesta Key is accessed from mainland Sarasota, Florida. The northern portion of the Key is largely residential but the middle beach areas have many resorts and condos. Siesta Public Beach has several beach parking lots that each hold 15 or so vehicles. Upon arrival, there are a number of entertaining recreational activities.
WHITE SANDS FOR WALKING, JOGGING, SUNNING
Siesta Key Public Beach has lovely white mineral quartz sand that is hard packed near the water so walking and jogging is easy and pleasurable. It is a great people watching and sunning beach as well.
FOOD, TENNIS, VOLLEYBALL, PLAYGROUND and RESTROOMS
The 40 acre Siesta Key Public Beach has restrooms, tennis courts, a food concession area, and a shaded picnic area that lies south of the concession area. There are a number of volleyball nets and good playground equipment for children.
SNORKELING AT POINT OF ROCKS
To the south of Siesta Key Public Beach is Crescent Beach with little parking but great rewards. The beach is wonderful for swimming. At the southern end of the beach by the wall, is a section called Point of Rocks, where there is a fine snorkeling area. Many fish and sea plants an be observed among the rock crevices. The depth is between 3-6 feet. It is also a fine shelling area.
KAYAKING AND BIKING
It is easy to rent kayaks on Siesta Key. Fishing kayaks or kayak tours through the mangroves or the Jim Neville Nature Preserve can be arranged through several outfitters. Bikes with all equipment are also available to rent and some people enjoy biking along the beach. Scooters, scooter cars, beach equipment, water skis and baby rental equipment are also readily available for rent.
CHARTER FISHING
Charter fishing boats with complete equipment and up to date electronics can also be arranged for fishing enthusiasts.
